Things to Do

Once you have decided to visit Peru your next decision would be to figure out what you want to do here. Visit Cusco? Or head to Machu Picchu? What about trekking on Inca Trail? Fancy some traditional shopping?

There is a lot to do and see in Peru so let’s take a look at some of the most important places to visit.

Machu Picchu

Probably the most familiar symbol of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu attracts tourists from all over the world. The historical site perched in the mountains is filled with Inca temples, sanctuaries, parks and water fountains.

Trekking

By far the most important trail for trekking is the Inca Trail, which starts from the village of Ollantaytambo and leads to Machu Picchu. It actually comprises 3 trails but the most popular one is the Classical Trail.

There are also several alternatives to the Classical Inca Trail, one of the most important being Salkantay-Santa Teresa to Machu Picchu. There are no restrictions imposed here and you can trek without a guide.

Nazca Lines

Believed to be created by the Nazca culture, the Nazca lines stretch for over 80 km/53 miles on a high arid plateau between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana in Peru. There is little evidence concerning why the figures have been built. Many believed they had a religious purpose.
